IDEAS. INSIGHT. IMPACT

Over the years I have been fortunate to work with some really great and abundant people. One of them is Ian McDermott (see below), the Director of Training at International Teaching Seminars. I have worked with Ian on several NLP programmes (Neuro-linguistic programming) and have learnt so much from him. In my opinion, he is one of the world’s best NLP teachers and I would recommend him to anyone who was serious about learning about NLP; and he’s a good guy!

Resourceful Mindset while being Undermined

He recently shared his views on what to do when things don’t go as you would like them to or when someone tells you that you can’t do something. I asked him if I could share them with my contacts and clients and he kindly said it would be OK. See what I mean about being abundant? So, please read on if you would like to learn how to cope with one of life’s challenges…….

Resourceful Mindset while being Undermined and someone says you can't

How are you when someone tells you something can’t be done or it’s just not possible? Speaking for myself, I know it often motivates me to find a way. The ‘no’s’ in life don’t just come in words. Sometimes it’s circumstances that seem to conspire. But again. for me, these are just obstacles so I start to look for a way around them.

a Resourceful Mindset

Over the years people have asked me how I do this. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s really just down to a way of thinking – and anyone can learn it.

I’ve spent a lot of my life figuring out other ways of doing things, especially when I find what I had imagined would work, didn’t. When this happened I had a choice: either I was going to give up or do something different. I got into the habit of trying something different. (And if that didn’t work…I’d try something different again).

If there are things you find frustrating because they haven’t worked out as you hoped, you might like to consider what you could do instead to create more opportunities. The trick is to get curious about other ways of doing things and not just stay with the received wisdom.

The beauty in this is that the more you develop this skill, the more areas of your life you will find it useful in – and it puts you in the driving seat.

Resourceful Mindset

“But I don’t have any choices…”

When something is really tough and you feel like you don’t have any power to make it different, it’s important to remember that you do still have power: you have the power to choose how you will react to what’s going on.

You may not be able to change what’s happened but you absolutely can change how you think and feel about it. Have a look at Ian’s recent blog, https://itsnlp.com/what-do-you-do-when-you-feel-like-you-missed-an-opportunity/? where you will find five things you can start doing to create a more resourceful mindset.

Each day the choices we make affect how we experience life. Some choices help us to flourish while others can undermine us. So will yours make this day heaven or hell for you?  It’s a choice each of us makes every day.

Again, thanks to Ian for his words of wisdom
